Lake Tahoe Information

If you have ever skied at LAKE TAHOE then you are part of the "Brotherhood of the Blue" appropriately named because of the lake's brilliant blue appearance on a sunny day. Lake Tahoe is divided with the western half in California and the eastern half in Nevada. It is an alpine or natural mountain lake some 22 miles in length. The "culture" of the lake community has been shaped by the gambling casinos on the Nevada side, the vacation homes on the California side, and the lure of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

Lake Tahoe is a two hour drive from Sacramento, a 4 hour drive from San Francisco, and a one hour drive from Reno; so it enjoys vacation seekers, gamblers, and skiers from every direction. There are 18 Ski Slopes either surrounding the lake or within an hour drive therefore making this a premier ski destination.

The large supply of seven ski resorts, additional ski only slopes, numerous hotels & motel accommodations, and the competition for tourist dollars drives the cost of a vacation down. Therefore Lake Tahoe is one of the most affordable places I've found to ski out west. Essentially it is like a "Myrtle Beach" in the mountains with gambling and skiing rather than amusement and the ocean.
